"Last Unspoiled Place"

Well, here it is. Bear Lake made the cover of a National Geographic publication. I heard about this book on the USU website a while back and thought it might be a fun read. The book foucuses primarily on Logan Canyon and how it is still quite undeveloped and "unspoiled". The author, Michael Sweeney, breaks the book into five chapters; beginning the tour at the mouth of Logan Canyon, and eventually ending at Bear Lake. Along the literary journey, Sweeney (a USU professor), mentions historical facts that occurred throughout the canyon, touches on the recreational opportunities found in the canyon (i.e. climbing, kayaking, and spelunking), and also manages to toot the horn for USU a little too often IMHO.
The book includes many photos, some of them good, and reads more like a picture book. For someone familiar with the features of the Bear River Range, and the occurences that have taken place in the region, this book will not really present much new information. While I can only take so many stories about Old Ephraim, those unfamiliar will surely find it fascinating.(***)3 out of 5 stars
